At an individual level, for someone who has built multiple gaming PCs, there is probably nothing that someone capable has to worry about.

As someone who has helped multiple teenagers build their first gaming rigs to get into the hobby, this is going to leave them out into the cold. Also if you are building rigs for others, having to sign into a Microsoft account just to complete an OS installation will be an interesting roadblock to overcome.

Disaster? Probably not. Challenge that hopefully generates some more mainstream competition for Microsoft in the gaming space? Please let it be so!
